NYC 2022 | Day #6

Hello from our ... Fearless Four? Fabulous Four? Faithful Four? Oo, perhaps the "Foundational Four"?! Whatever we're calling them, the Fraternity Four represented the congregation well on Sunday by wearing their youth group T-shirts.

They also joined a long line of Fraternity youth who have posed for a photo with the Colorado State University ram statue on campus.

Here's what our youth had to say about Sunday:

Q: Who spoke at worship this morning and what did they talk about?
A: Drew Hart was the speaker this morning. He talked about what was happening in the world and how we should ask God for advice. He also spoke about the empty tomb and how Jesus was resurrected.

Q: What did you do during your first small group session?
A: We just played a bunch of get-to-know-you games.

Q: Share a little about the workshop you attended today.
A: The workshop we attended today was called "Come to the Table." It was about communion and we made communion bread. The workshop leader talked about love feast and where it comes from in the Bible. We did get to eat the bread.

Q: Have you had any free time yet?
A: We have had some free time. We took naps and played on our phones. McKinley is in the National Youth Conference choir, so some of her free time is used for choir practice. The choir is directed by Carol Elmore from Oak Grove Church of the Brethren in Roanoke.

Q: What was your favorite part of today?
A: Our favorite part was the concert by Ken Medema. Ken is blind and creates his own music and plays the piano.

Kennedy and McKinley were on the front row for the concert, joined by new friends from Henry Fork Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount, Virginia, and Cedar Bluff Church of the Brethren in Boones Mill, Virginia.

Q: Share something that you've learned about the Church of the Brethren.
A: There are a lot more Brethren churches than we expected! Fraternity is one of 154 congregations represented at NYC. There are nearly 600 youth and more than 200 advisors from 25 states and four countries.

Shout-out time! Send a shout out to someone back home.
McKinley: Shout out to my mom — I miss you.
Kennedy: Shout out to my brother, Carter. Remember to take a shower.
Lydia: Shout out to Mawmaw and Pawpaw (Robert and Ann Williard) who have been praying over this trip and conference. I love you both!!
Melissa: Shout out to Pastor David and Carolyn for leading music in worship on Sunday.

And shout out to everyone who is checking the blog for updates, sending texts of encouragement, and praying for the Fraternity youth and advisors! Keep following along — we can't wait to see what happens this week.
